WiFi boosters for the Cellar

The Guild's former nightclub turned general use room is well soundproofed underground with thick concrete walls, this however means that it is very hard to get a phone signal when societies are given this room to use (which many do on a weekly basis). For a similar reason, the WiFi signal has the same problem, making it hard to impossible to get any kind of signal on phones/computers which makes it a lot harder to plan events in this room.

We ask the guild to look into a way to put an extra WiFi hub in the cellar itself or boosters in the corridor nearby to improve the accessibility of electronic resources when using this room.

I agree it shouldn’t be too hard to do either especially if they are able to use powerline connectors

The Guild were reviewing how to best fit this into University WiFi plans. Currently, students and societies aren’t using the building and the Guild has been focussed on making the campus COVID secure. This idea will be progressed at a later date.

Work has now been completed to improve the WiFi signal in the Cellar by introducing WiFi boosters to this space. This means this space is now more accessible and useful for societies and other student events.
