The University of Liverpool has a diverse student body and simultaneously a range of specific dietary requirements, not limited to, halal, kosher, vegetarian and vegan. The University has a large Muslim community, which includes staff, who have a halal food dietary requirement. This petition is for a halal Subway on campus.
There are a total of four Subways in campus vicinity: two on Uni square off Brownlow Hill, one by South campus off Myrtle Street and one by the North campus near Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. On campus alone, there are very little halal food options. With regards to Subway, none of their outlets in Liverpool are halal. Other cities like Manchester have halal subways within walking distance to their Universities and so it is a shame there is not one by University of Liverpool considering there are four close by.
The University and GUILD of students are committed to their diversity and equality policy, and so by considering this petition and lobbying for one halal Subway would only support this policy. The students of this Uni want the University and the GUILD of students to lobby intensely with the Subway Franchise to make one of their close-to-campus outlets serving halal food. We hope this petition will make the first of the biggest food franchise to become halal.
If you support this petition for a halal Subway near campus, please vote Yes for this so that the University and GUILD can take action. Also, please share this with your friends too!

Where is the link to vote? I just see “like and dislike”
By clicking like, that will basically be counted as a vote.
As Muslims can eat Kosher food but Jewish people can not eat Halal, it would make more sense to advocate for more Kosher options.
Over the last two years, previous Student Officers and myself have contacted the multiple Subway franchises across campus each on multiple occasions but have not received responses or indications that our local franchises will extend their food to include halal options. This is disappointing, however I understand this is a vital issue for students and I will endeavour to look at other campus food providers, such as the University’s, and how we can provide better halal, kosher, and vegan options that are inclusive of our diverse student body’s religions and beliefs.
