Bar Society

This academic year was an eventful one for the Bar Society.

The Bar Society started off the year with the annual Meet and Greet. The turnout for this event was huge, with many students enquiring about mini-pupillages and expressing an interest in mooting. The Committee introduced themselves to the students and briefed them about the upcoming events. A Q & A session was conducted at the end of the presentation to answer the various queries the students had.

During December, the Bar Society organised a Christmas and Law themed quiz at the guild. This event was fun and informal, with cash prizes given out for the best Christmas jumper and the winners of the Quiz. A Christmas-themed photo booth was also set up, with lots of props for the participants to choose from.

After 6 rounds of intense mooting, the Internal Mooting Competition Finals were held at the prestigious St George’s Hall. Barristers from local chambers served as judges for the finalists and were particularly impressed with the high standard of advocacy displayed by the finalists. Prizes for the Finalists included mini pupillages, court marshalling and cash prizes. We would like to thank all the Mooting Team, contestants and judges for their hard work!

During April, the Bar Society hosted the North West Inter-Varsity Mooting Competition. This competition involved two other local universities: Liverpool John Moores and Edgehill University. Similar to the internal mooting competitions, the judges were all practicing barristers. The competition was a close one, with all the teams displaying exemplary mooting skills. Congratulations to the University of Liverpool for placing first in this competition!

The annual ‘Bar Evening’ will be the last event for this academic year. Hope to see you there!
