The Anatomy Society: A Review of the Year

It’s been a fantastic year for the Anatomy Society. Whilst COVID-19 has prevented us from doing many things, it hasn’t stopped us hosting a range of events to keep everyone’s spirits high and minds focused.

We started the year by creating a new society Instagram page, on top of our already existent Facebook page. This allowed members to get to know the committee members and the HARC team. It also allowed us to give regular updates on socials, as well as sharing information on important issues such as mental health and International Women’s Day.

Our first social was a quiz night with both students and staff. These mixed socials proved a huge hit throughout the year and appeared to lift everyone’s moods as we went into tier 3.

Our next virtual bingo night was a great way to get students talking to each other in a more relaxed way. We also handed out some fantastic prizes.

When Halloween hit, we decided a pumpkin carving competition would be a fantastic way to get everyone in the spooky spirit. We had some very creative entries, including many anatomically correct ones (very on theme).

Our Instagram page proved useful once again when we hosted a month of movie nights. Here we set a movie for people to watch in their own time, then let everyone give feedback on what they thought about it at the end of the week. This was a great COVID friendly activity!

By far our most successful social was the Christmas Quiz. With a fantastic turn out from both staff and students, the festive questions and a couple of drinks was such a fun way to end a very successful first term. We had brilliant feedback from everyone.

We had a lot of volunteers to join in The Big Fundraiser Jailbreak activity organised by our Treasurer Ella Morgan. Connecting to Strava allowed your miles to be tracked as you walked or ran to ‘escape jail’. Two teams of anatomy students contributed to a raising a grand total of almost £3,000 for Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research!

Finally, we had a significant number of entries for our easter bake off. A sweet treat to round of the year that was definitely apricated by everyone’s house mates and family members.

Overall, we’ve had a fantastic year! As a committee we have thoroughly enjoyed organising and hosting, we hope everyone who attended did too! We wish the best of luck to all those who put themselves forward for the coming elections.

Best wishes,

Anatomy Society committee
