On the eve of Freshers week, I’m thinking back to my moving in weekend, exactly four years ago, when I arrived to Rankin Hall full of excitement and nerves with no idea that I was in for the best few years ever in a city I would fall in love with.
After hauling a ridiculous amount of stuff up three flights of stairs in ‘A’ block, it was time to say goodbye to the family and meet all my new neighbours who were to become my very best pals. The first day was exhausting as we sat around desperately trying to remember each other’s names and repeating the same nervous questions… Where are you from?... What did you study at A level?... but then as the effects of the Lambrini sank in we jumped in a taxi and were met by a friendly Scouse accent telling us to head to Concert Square.
The first night was a blur of forgotten names, terrible dance moves and neon paint leaving me with a slightly nauseous feeling caused by a combination of cocktails, Circle of Fire and nervousness at what was still yet to come in Freshers week 2011. We then joined in with the Guild programme of activities for the week and had the most amazing time with Welcome Ball rounding it all off.
For anyone sat at home panicking at the prospect of tomorrow… please don’t! No matter what you want from your university experience there will be something here for each of you, just make sure you come along to the Guild this week and find it. It isn’t too late to get your wristband, you can grab one from our website or from the Guild reception when you come for a wander round campus over the weekend. Keep an eye out for Harry, Alex, Emma and I as we will be around to help you move in and to chat to at all the nights out.
You’re set to make some of the best friends and memories ever - I am really excited for all of you!
Looking forward to meeting you all this week - safe journey and see you soon.
