In May 2017, Liverpool will be electing a metro mayor for the first time.
The metro mayor job was created as part of former chancellor George Osborne’s Northern Powerhouse plans and means transferring some powers, from central government departments in London, to the local area.
The directly-elected metro mayors will be responsible for setting out a strategy for growing the city region economy, and will have certain powers over issues such as housing, transport and skills.
These are all areas which could have a huge impact on students, so it’s important to make sure you have your say. To do this, you need to make sure you’re registered to vote by mid April 2017.
