Ananda's Blog: Change starts with you

So term has begun, which also means the season of societies is upon us. Almost every society has something exciting coming up this week or the next so there is something to do for everyone here at the Guild. So come along and wander about because if for some reason you missed societies at Fresher’s Fair, you can catch them in their element here. Check out the full list of events coming up.
Today I wanted to talk about student initiatives. An idea or suggestion by a student can make all the difference in the world. Six years ago someone here at the Guild suggested an idea called Leave Liverpool Tidy (LLT). It was an idea to provide students who were leaving to recycle and reuse their belongings so new students could use them instead of buying new ones and at the same time helping manage waste disposal here in Liverpool. LLT is also now a platform that enables local residents and students to contribute back to society so quite a successful suggestion!
Similarly, it was the initiative of a former Student Officer Emma Sims who in collaboration with the library here at the university started the Pass the Book programme. This allows students to buy, sell and locate textbooks that they need from an internal network so students don’t feel the pinch of having to buy so many new essential textbooks at the start of term. This in my opinion is a fantastic program that helps students driven by the passion and determination of a student here at Liverpool in conjunction with the amazing UoL Library team.
So whether you are a new student starting your journey here in Liverpool or you’ve returned for another wonderful year, you have the power to make a difference for not just yourself but the wider student and local population.
