Rainbow Laces 2017

We said it last year, and we're saying it again - homophobia in sport is not acceptable. We believe that sports teams should promote good team work, and should not discriminate against people because of their sexuality. So, we've teamed up with Sport Liverpool once again  to run Rainbow Laces campaign, which promotes a welcoming environment for everyone in any sports team.

Last year we successfully got all 50 sports clubs to sign our pledge and commit to making sport at Liverpool inclusive for all our students.

We're getting set to achieve the same this time round - and as an added extra for this year - we will be catching up with individual teams and reporting on what steps they've taken to make their club more inclusive, since last year.

Aims

  • Every club captain will sign our pledge to eradicate homophobia from sport
  • Every sports club will wear Rainbow Laces

What we’re doing

  • Give out Rainbow Laces to sports teams
  • Design and create a giant pledge for sports teams to sign
  • Clubs who signed the pledge last year to report on what they have done since then to make their club more inclusive

This is the pledge we are asking every club captain to sign:

1) We believe that everyone should be able to participate in and enjoy sport – whoever they are and whatever their background.
2) We believe that sport is about fairness and equality, respect and dignity. Sport teaches individuals how to strive and succeed, how to cope with success and disappointment, and brings people together with a common goal.
3) We are committed to making these values a reality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. We will work together, and individually, to rid sport of homophobia and transphobia.
4) We will make sport a welcome place for everyone – for those participating in sport, those attending sporting events and for those working or volunteering in sports at any level. We will work with all these groups to ensure they have a voice, and to challenge unacceptable behaviour.
