Campaign tactics

In 2016, Government made changes to University and college education.

It suggested introducing a ‘Teaching Excellence Framework’ – and if Universities score well in this framework, they can increase their tuition fees. How well they score in the Teaching Excellence Framework partially depends on the University’s scores in the National Student Survey (NSS).

The National Student Survey is completed by final year students every year as a tool to review their course and time at university. However in light of Government changes, we are fighting with other students’ unions on a national scale to encourage students to not complete it.

Only through completing the survey are there results which Government can use to destroy higher education. As well as increasing tuition fees, the results will help the Government to categorise institutions as gold, silver or bronze, which could also devalue your degree to potential employers in the future.

Don’t complete and hit delete.

Aims

  • Get 2500 final year students to pledge to not compete the NSS
  • Support the wider national campaign to stop the Teaching Excellence Framework increasing fees by removing the NSS as a reliable measure.

What we’re doing

  • Creating ‘Don’t Complete, Hit Delete artwork for digital screens, website, social media, banners, T shirts and other merchandise
  • Emailing final years to encourage them to not complete survey
  • Emailing other key groups, such as Course Reps and Societies, to brief them on the campaign and encourage them to join the fight
  • Running a campaign information stall at Refreshers Fair on Tuesday 31st January
  • Offering alternative options of ‘15 minutes of fun’ as ways to spend the time students won’t be using to complete the NSS
  • Lecture shout outs about the campaign and outlining why you shouldn’t complete the NSS

How you can help

Tell us you’re not going to complete the NSS by signing our online pledge

If you have already completed the survey, you can withdraw your participation by sending an email to thestudentsurvey@ipsos.com before Sunday 30th April.

Get involved in the ’15 minutes of fun’ alternative things that we will be offering you, instead of using that time for the completing the survey
